Welcome to the official website of St Georges & Priorslee Parish Council
About the Parish Council
St Georges & Priorslee Parish Council was established in 1988 as part of a wider initiative by Telford & Wrekin Council, which created eleven new parishes following the development of Telford New Town in Shropshire.
Historically, both St Georges and Priorslee were known as strong mining communities. Back in 1988, the electoral register for the combined area stood at just 3,400. At the heart of the local economy was the Lilleshall Company engineering works, founded in the mid-19th century. The New Yard was a significant site, manufacturing everything from blast furnace blowing engines and pumps to locomotives and winding engines. The company sadly ceased operations in the mid-1970s, leaving a lasting legacy in the area.
At the Parish Council's formation, eleven councillors were elected from a pool of 23 candidates. Fast forward to today, the electorate now stands at 10,156 (for the 2025/26 Council year), reflecting ongoing housing development and population growth. The parish is also served by four primary schools and one secondary school, the latter opening in 2016.
The Parish Centre
The St Georges Parish Centre, located on Grove Street, provides a key community space. It includes a parish office, a meeting room, kitchen facilities, and accessible toilets. The venue is available to hire for small group events and local activities.
The Centre is usually open Monday to Thursday between 9am and 3pm, but we recommend calling ahead on 01952 567700 if you're making a special journey.
Coming Soon – The Gower
We're pleased to share that the Parish Council will be moving to a new home at The Gower in Summer 2026. This modern facility will offer expanded space and amenities for the growing needs of the community.

Notice - Councillor James Ernest (Ernie) Dabbs

It is with great sadness that St Georges & Priorslee Parish Council announce the passing of Councillor James Ernest (Ernie) Dabbs at the age of 94.
Ernie first became a Parish Councillor in April 2003, serving his community with dedication. After a short break from duties in 2015, he was re-elected in May 2019 and continued to serve faithfully until his passing.
He will be remembered as a much-loved and respected member of the community who gave many years of service to the parish.
Funeral details will be shared once confirmed. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Ernie’s family and friends at this sad time.
